Cristina Rodrigues is a Portuguese artist and architect. She graduated in architecture (2004) and completed a Masters degree in medieval and renaissance history at the University of Porto (2007), Portugal. She later moved to Manchester, United Kingdom, where she lectured at university and was awarded a PhD (2016).

Cristina Rodrigues interprets reality by carefully analysing mentalities and iconographies in contemporary society. The dialectics between tradition and contemporaneity is central to her work. Each of her art installations is locally inspired yet universal in meaning, and it intentionally touches the lives of all those involved in its artistic production.

Cristina’s works were viewed by many thousands of visitors in exhibitions such as: ‘The Shroud’, December 2017 – 2018, at Naves MATADERO, in Madrid, Spain; ‘The Kingdom of Heaven’, 2017, a permanent collection commissioned for Manchester Cathedral, in Manchester, U.K; Cristina Rodrigues, ‘A Retrospective’, 2017, solo exhibition at Centro de Cultura Contemporânea in Castelo Branco, Portugal; ‘The Shroud’, 2016, CAB – Colombo Art Biennale 2016, large-scale installation exhibited at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, in Colombo, Sri Lanka; and ‘La Pasión’, 2016, a monumental exhibition in Seville, distributed by 5 of the most iconic monuments in the city – Fundación Valentín de Madariaga y Oya; Portuguese Pavilion; Universidad de Sevilla; Casa de la Provincia and Real Alcázar de Sevilla. Spain.

Cristina’s artworks are part of significant museum and public collections, such as: Manchester Cathedral; Cheshire East Council; Municipal Museum Amadeo Souza-Cardoso; Centro de Cultura Contemporânea, in Castelo Branco and the State of Portugal (Portuguese Government).
